Porsche GT3 Outbraked by a WV bus

November 23rd, 2006

The video is hilarious, a Porsche GT3 and an Aston Martin outbraked and passed by a old WV bus. When I saw the video for the first time I was like - what is that thing? Most probably it’s well prepared for track and with a pretty good driver in it. Too bad I cand find more info on it.

Update: The van is mental! It’s powered by a 520hp Porsche engine. Check out this site http://www.race-taxi.ch/ and a video:

Windows Experience Index: An In-Depth Look

October 22nd, 2006

I just ordered a new Dell Dimension 9200 to install Vista at home and I was wondering how good will it run.  I did some research and I found this article explaining how the Vista Experience Index works.

The Windows® Experience Index is a new feature built into Windows Vista™. It is designed to help consumers understand how well Windows Vista and the software running on it will perform on a specific PC. The index achieves this by assessing the performance of the PC and assigning a score to it. The higher the score, the better the PC will perform.

The overall PC performance is represented by the base score. The base score is derived from 5 sub-scores for each of the following 5 attributes:

- Processor - calculations per second
- Memory - operations per second
- Graphics - desktop performance for Windows Aero graphics
- Gaming graphics - 3D graphics performance. Useful for gaming and 3D business applications
- Primary hard disk - The data transfer rate of the primary hard disk

Ed Helms’ video report on life at Microsoft

July 11th, 2006

Honestly, I was a bit surprised to see Ed Helms doing a video report on Microsoft. I guess the marketing guys are trying different angles on the recruiting campaign. Anyway, I love it.

Another high MPG car

April 27th, 2006

Lately the gas prices went up significantly, last time when I filled up my car I paid over $3.30 per gallon. So it’s not surprinsing to find more and more discutions about high MPG cars.
Here is the latest one: Loremo - the most economical model has a 2-cylinder 20HP engine, a very aerodynamic shape and unfortunately you will have to wait until 2009 before you can get one.

X1 - an electric car faster than a Porsche GT

April 26th, 2006

The Wrightspeed X1 is an Ariel Atom using lithium-ion batteries and a high-power electric motor. It has 1500 lbs, 0-60 in 3 sec, 13,300 RPM, no clutch, one gear and the energy consumed is equivalent to 170MPG. Make it affordable and I’ll get one.

Check out the drag racing video. It easily beats a Ferrari 360 and a Porsche GT.

DSG vs. 6-speed manual

April 21st, 2006

Video: DSG vs. 6-speed manual | Leftlane News - Car News For Enthusiasts

In this video, professional racer Keiichi Tsuchiya drives a VW Golf GTI with a 6spd manual, while Naoki Hattori drives the VW Golf GTI with DSG. Despite Tsuchiya’s incredibly fast shifting skills, the DSG wins in every trial. Later, the DSG-equipped VW races a more powerful Opel Astra Turbo and Renault Megane RS, and wins in both cases. Tsuchiya, who was first skeptical of the DSG, later agreed that “the shift timing is just perfect.”
